A Less Painful, AI-Assisted Influenza Test: nodoca
Our clinic offers influenza testing using nodoca, an AI-powered medical device designed to assist physicians in diagnosing influenza.
During the test, a dedicated camera captures images of the patient’s throat. Artificial intelligence then analyzes these images together with clinical information such as body temperature and reported symptoms.
Unlike conventional rapid antigen tests, nodoca does not require a swab to be inserted deep into the nose. This helps reduce the pain and discomfort associated with nasal swab testing. The examination takes only a short time and may be particularly suitable for patients who are uncomfortable with nasal swabs, including children.

During the examination, a physician or trained staff member places the dedicated camera near the back of the mouth and takes images of the throat. The imaging process is completed quickly.
nodoca is a diagnostic support tool and does not replace a physician’s clinical judgment. The final diagnosis is made by the physician based on the test result, symptoms, physical findings, time since symptom onset, and other relevant clinical information. Depending on the patient’s age, symptoms, or the condition of the mouth and throat, a conventional influenza test may be recommended instead.
The clinical effectiveness and safety of nodoca have been evaluated in patients aged six years and older.
Privacy and use of throat images
Throat images and related clinical information obtained during the examination are securely managed in accordance with applicable laws and our clinic’s privacy policy. The information may also be appropriately processed so that individual patients cannot be identified and used to improve testing accuracy or for medical research.
